Why "la Truscia" ?

Once in Sicily there was only one great certainty: the '' truscia ''. This wonderful
Sicilian term so onomatopoeic derives from the French '' trousse '' and can be translated as '' bundle '', a bundle of clothes that was used to carry something. That bundle had many uses: the truscia made with fabric (a sheet no longer in use or a kitchen placemat, in dialect `` la mappina ''), could contain dirty linen to take to the washroom, but above all it contained the breakfast of a worker who left home early in the morning, and having to walk the path to work, tied the bundle to a stick, to be placed on his shoulder so as not to hold it in his hand.

In an episode of Inspector Montalbano broadcast on TV, there is a scene in which the inspector meets his trusty cook Adelina, who hands him a bundle or rather a scam, as they say in Sicilian, which contains food.

It is a romantic image reminiscent of good food, well cooked, fragrant and still warm, wrapped with large napkins to carry it out of your kitchen, as Adelina does in the film.
